Ras Mohammed
Overview
Covering 480 km2, Ras Mohamed forms the southernmost tip of the Sinai Peninsula at the junction of the Suez and Aqaba gulfs. Acknowledged as one of the best diving areas in the world, this is Egypt's oldest and best known national park. Ancient fossil coral reefs fringe the shoreline and in some places ascend 100 meters above sea level. The national park includes the islands of Tiran and Sanafir, and coastal waters fronting the Sharm El Sheikh and Nabq tourism development areas. The Mangrove Channel and Hidden Bay are feeding grounds for birds such as herons and terns, and three turtle species nest on the park’s beaches.
