Geology

Zaranik Lagoon, an eastern extension of Lake Bardawil, is separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow sand barrier with several branches exchanging water between the lake and the sea. Numerous islets are scattered throughout the lagoon, while extensive muddy intertidal flats fringe its shores.
