Park Location:
Zaranik is located 300 km from Cairo at the eastern end of Lake Bardawil on the Mediterranean coast of Sinai. It is bordered from the north by the Mediterranean, from the south by the main Qantara - El Arish road, from the east by tourism development areas, and from the west by Lake Bardawil. Zaranik covers an area of 250 km² (68% water surface and 32% sand dunes).

Getting there:

From Cairo you can reach the park using private or public transportation (taxi or bus boarded from Qoulaly bus station) heading towards of El Arish, the capital of North Sinai Governorate. Once beyond the village Mazar on the Qantara-Arish highway, look for a large sign that indicates the entrance to Zaranik located approximately 120 km past Qantara, or 35 km before El Arish. From El Arish, the park can be reached by taxi.


Entrance & Lodging:
Entrance and Lodging Fees
Non-Egyptian visitors pay US$ 3 per person and US$ 3 per vehicle to enter the park. Camping fees are US$ 5 per person.
Climate:

Typical Mediterranean climate prevails, with temperatures ranging from an average of 13° C in winter to 25° C in summer, and moderate rainfall varying between 80-100 mm per year, mainly in winter.

Temperature:13°C (January) - 25°C (August).
Relative Humidity: 70% (average) at the coast; 40% at inland areas.
Evaporation: 49 mm/month (December) - 192 mm/month (July).
Wind: Southern winds in winter; northwestern wind in spring & summer.

 


Visitor Center:
Exhibits samples of local fauna and flora and includes an auditorium for environmental education and meetings.

Environmental research center:

Includes lodging facilities for visiting researchers, a laboratory and a library. To use these facilities, researchers should contact the park management prior to their visit.
